Graduated in Business & French, then qualified as a C.A. with "Deloites", travelling between London & Paris. Went into Industry shortly after profession. Finance & Commercial Director of Swiss-owned "Nairn", Kirkcaldy. Nominated group "troubleshooter" mainly in Europe & Australasia. Then Group M.D. of one of Scotland's biggest independent papermakers, Smith Anderson, Fife , charged with turning it around. Gave all this up at 50, to become self-employed company "doctor". A risky decision. Became Chairman of 11 companies over 9 years, on a part-time basis. Projects , mainly in UK, were with deeply indebted companies, mostly with venture capital companies. Extensive travel to Board meetings...from Aberdeen to Kent, Telford to Paris, Dalkeith, Bradford... Retired early, with my wife, some 4 years ago. Bought "dream" 200+year old farmhouse in far SW France. All was shattered when diagnosed with leukaemia, & then more recently an "aggressive" lymphoma. I am a physical shell compared with my former self , & now follow much of what I participated in such as athletics, rugby, running. My wife & 2 daughters have been rocks. Spending as much time as possible in sunny Biarritz, SW France. I keep in touch with Heriot's & Herioters inc Murray Wyllie (N of Bordeaux) & David Somerville (Inverness). |
